The kitchen is undoubtedly the room in the house where you do the most work. It's a multi-purpose space that can function as a workspace, playroom, and even a living room. But just because it's a workhorse doesn't mean decorations have to be sidelined. In fact, many interior designers recommend functional yet aesthetically pleasing items in the kitchen to brighten up the space. and your smile
“Functional décor is essential for a well-equipped, fashionable and practical kitchen,” says Artem Kropovinsky, lead designer and founder of Arsight. “It brings a room to life, adds personality, and most importantly, tells a story about the person living there.” That got me thinking.
My kitchen is very compact (read: small), which means you are very limited when it comes to displaying decorations on your counter. If there's anyone who knows which items best integrate function and decor, it's Kropovinsky, interior designer and Wilk Design, and Alison, founder of the He Workshop, like Wilkinson. An interior designer, I thought. The two shared his seven favorite discoveries that make a kitchen magazine-worthy.
1.Kettle
Whether you're a coffee or tea lover, a kettle is an essential part of your kitchen (and morning routine). Wilkinson recommends Caraway's Whistle His Tea Kettle, which easily adds a pop of color to your stove top. She also recommends the Fellow Stagg stove top gooseneck she kettle as a sophisticated option for those looking for something more modern and sophisticated.
2. Wall hook
Wall hooks are a convenient way to hang aprons, dish towels, shopping bags, etc. However, a simple hook doesn't have to lack personality or style. Kropovinski loves the minimalist yet classy feel of Schoolhouse His Thomas His Hook, which fits with almost any design theme or color palette. If you want something a little more quirky, choose his chair-shaped IKEA FJANTIG hooks, which come in a set of three. (FYI: IKEA has lots of cool items that can be used as storage.)
3. Herbs
Houseplants are almost a given when decorating your home, but have you ever thought about adding a small herb garden to your greenery? Especially with this MINEGROW indoor garden with grow lights, Kropovinsky says, We recommend keeping a collection of fresh herbs. Not only do they add life and vibrancy to your kitchen, they also go “beyond an ornamental plant” and serve as an ingredient in your favorite recipes.
4. Colorful countertop appliances
According to Wilkinson, incorporating colorful appliances into your kitchen creates a chic look and adds personality to your kitchen. She loves her Alessi Plisse toaster, which has a unique pleated design that adds texture and color to an empty, unused corner of the kitchen. Aria Retro Her Style Her Air Fryer allows you to quickly prepare your favorite dishes while adding a mid-century modern touch (and even more vibrant colors!) to your countertop.
5. Vases (and other decorative containers)
According to Wilkinson, having fresh flowers in your kitchen is essential to adding color, scent, and uplifting your mood. Of course, a vessel is needed to express all its beauty. She likes Iittala Aalto vases. It's a work of art in itself, but it's even more gorgeous when it's filled with hydrangeas in the summer and greenery in the winter. Bonus: It comes in two different sizes.
Meanwhile, Kropobinski thinks Farmhouse Pottery's laurel crocs are both useful and beautiful, and she's introducing fun laurel wreath designs that add a touch of farmhouse charm to your kitchen. Available in four sizes, you can store things like cooking utensils and potted herbs on your countertop for easy access.
6. Cupboard
Dish racks may seem like commonplace kitchen items that don't receive much attention when it comes to design. With the Alessi A Tempo stainless steel dish rack, you can combine practicality with modern elegance, says Kropovinski (who knew you could arrange food in such an artistic way? Was it?). If you're looking for something equally modern and functional at a more affordable price, look no further than the Yamazaki Home His Tosca His Dish Rack.
7. Fruit bowl
“The subtle charm of a creatively designed fruit bowl filled with vibrant, fresh fruit is hard to resist,” says Kropovinsky. “Not only does it encourage eating more produce, but it also brings a pop of color to your kitchen counter.”
Wilkinson recommends the sleek Alessi Dear Charlie Banana Holder. Perfect for those with an industrial or minimalist style. World Market's natural rattan two-tier hanging basket also gives a variety of fruits their own space, but has a more bohemian, organic feel.
