1. Antique hardware

When it comes to kitchen hardware trends, the more popular designs are gradually moving towards mixed metals and antiques.

“In 2024, kitchens will have a more antique feel,” says Laura Williams, founder of ATX Interior Design. “People want their kitchens to feel more inviting and livable, and using distressed brass in the hardware can add warmth to achieve that look.”

“This year, we're going to see even more combinations of metal and style — everything from knobs to pulls to latches,” says Gray Joyner, founder of Gray Joyner Interiors. “Kitchens will no longer only include polished finishes. I think we'll start to see copper finishes, polished brass, oil-rubbed bronze, and even resin adding a bit of color. I believe in it. Personally, I like the matte finish because it doesn't show fingerprints.”

Brass and stainless steel are particularly popular because they are long-lasting and resistant to water. Cheaper handles often have a less abrasion-resistant finish and can even attract finger grease easily.

“As a society, we're moving away from the minimalist black and white kitchen trend,” says Laura. “I think we'll see more dark wood finishes and less light oak finishes on kitchen cabinets. These will be complemented by subtle pops of tones like sage she green and powder she blue.”

Finally, gone are the days when kitchen wall and floor tiles were chosen solely for functional purposes. This new year, designers advise you to get creative with your designs and add more personality to this utilitarian space.

“Hand-painted tiles are coming back in a big way, and I love that,” Gray says. “This is another way to add color, dimension, and interest if you don't want to add color or dimension to your window treatments.”
