ENDIcott, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) — We get a first look inside the new year-round home of the owners of a popular local food truck. NewsChannel 34 got a peek inside The Kitchen Counter on West Main Street in Endicott, which is scheduled to open tomorrow, May 1st.
Partners Mark Yezzi and Aaron Laughlin are taking over the former Smarties location, keeping the Perry's ice cream, but replacing the chicken barbecue with specialty sandwiches like Smashburgers and fried chicken sandwiches.
For the past few weeks, they've been busy putting up signage, developing a menu, and making small decorations. Yezzi says this is the first time he's selling ice cream, and he's taking the same creative approach as many of his seasonal products.
“We like to keep it that way and try to stay creative when coming up with our specials. I think you can expect the same with our ice cream. The interior retains the feel of a retro ice cream parlor, with stools and checkered tiles. The owners plan to purchase new picnic tables and install umbrellas for outdoor seating. The kitchen counter is open seven days a week from 11am to 9am.
