Restaurateur Tyler Morrison will be the first to tell you that he went from divot to pivot a few years ago. After rising through the ranks at Topgolf's Dallas headquarters, he got the chance to broaden his career horizons. “I've been fortunate to travel the world creating experiential events for professional sports stadiums and major brands,” he says.
In 2019, Morrison moved to Kansas City to become vice president of operations for a golf simulator startup concept in Downtown Kansas City. Unfortunately, the pandemic quickly derailed those plans, so Morrison pivoted and opened Scratch Gourmet Express & Catering. “In May 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were able to launch a carry-out and catering concept in Prairie Village,” Morrison says. “Once the pandemic was over, we transitioned into a casual fine dining restaurant with an emphasis on fine wines and quality comfort food.”
Morrison, who is always busy, says he is also preparing to open a speakeasy called “Noir” in late 2024. As a foodie-focused entrepreneur, Morrison is also passionate about charity work. “Since opening in 2020, we have raised and donated more than $250,000 for local Kansas City charities,” Morrison says.
Before the 16-hour workday began, we Caught up We met up with Morrison for some early morning coffee, dumped him our weird survey, and saved a few extra espressos for posterity. Congratulations.

As much as I love silly humorous movies (it's my favorite category of movies), I don't think I'd be able to go back and watch that movie in 20 years and experience the pure joy I felt watching it back then.

How long could you theoretically survive as a vegan? Please answer honestly.
Honestly, VI If you start on a Monday, by day 7 you'll be craving sushi. As a kid, my family and I would eat sushi almost every week at a local restaurant near Fort Worth, Texas. (PS: I'm a huge clean eater, and the fresh ingredients we use are why I love the Scratch Gourmet Kitchen style so much.)
Bonus Question 5: Please tell us the dance song you would like to choreograph. Smash On the dance floor.
