If the last few years have taught me anything, it's that I'm not the world's greatest DIYer.
But that didn't stop me from trying. When it comes to brightening up the house, I've made changes to almost every room. Now that we're in the era of working from home, we're spending more time at home than ever before. As a result, we realized that we needed more storage space, a more organized workspace, a cozier place to relax, and more.
However, rebuilding a home is not always cheap. Luckily, Columbus has several options for affordable home decor and his DIY supplies. Whether you're looking for gently used furniture or want to start a major upcycling project, there's a place to find what you need.
new uses
This thrift store is one of my Instagram favorites. I like that they share their inventory on social media and I like that their prices are low. You'll find everything from cushions to lawn furniture. New Uses is located at 7410 Sawmill Rd. Business hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays, noon to 5 p.m. Please visit our website for more information.
midohio restore
MidOhio ReStore is one of my favorite places to find great deals. If you have a large project like a kitchen or bathroom remodel, this is the place to go. Get everything you need for your reno project, including new ovens, bathroom tiles, kitchen cabinets, and more at affordable prices. Be sure to follow our store's Facebook page for daily updates on what products we have in stock. You can find out more about our various locations and opening hours by visiting our website.
facebook marketplace
Facebook Marketplace can be hit or miss, but don't discount it when you're looking for affordable home decor. I personally use this option for most of my upcycling projects. The marketplace has a completely free section where you can find almost anything you can imagine. If you have time to watch some YouTube tutorials, you can find out how to bring an old free desk or bookshelf back to life. You can check it here.
ohio savings
There are several thrift stores around Columbus where you can find some decent home decor items, but the Ohio Thrift Store is my personal favorite. I've found some really great pieces over the years. If you visit with an open mind, you'll probably find yourself inspired by one or two of his carefully used pieces. There are several locations in the city, but the 1881 W. Henderson Rd. spot is my favorite. Visit the website for more information.
ikea
Of course, we can't honestly talk about affordable interiors without mentioning IKEA. The best reason to visit is that you can eat meatballs during your stay. But what follows is low prices, a wide selection, and stylish products. IKEA is located at 1900 IKEA Way near Polaris.
