1. Go natural

Incorporating natural products, especially those you've harvested or grown yourself, is one of the great ways to celebrate fall.
“I love decorating with natural products,” says Lee Crowder, national director of design and model experience for Frisco, Texas-based homebuilding firm Taylor Morrison. “My favorites are pumpkins and potted plants, which last well into the fall.”
When decorating with pumpkins, Crowder recommends green and white for both on-trend pop and staying power.
“Green and white are incredibly trendy, so I pair them with potato vines and ferns,” she says. “It will last until December.”
2. Let There Be Right

As the days get shorter and natural light begins to wane in fall, it's the perfect time to change up both your indoor and outdoor lighting.
“It's great to have low lighting to draw people into a space and make it feel inviting,” says Amber Dunford, style director at Bed Bath & Beyond. “String lighting transitions nicely from dusk to night and creates the perfect atmosphere for gathering spaces. Lanterns and candles are also a good way to incorporate light sources.”
Don't forget the balcony. Crowder says it can be a great place to add some lighting or a little ambience.
“I love pairing pumpkins on the porch with large open lanterns,” Crowder says. “Instead of candles, try solar-powered or battery-powered candles. They offer the wonderful flickering aesthetic of candlelight, but they light up automatically and are heat-resistant.”
3. Change textures and fabrics

Summer is all about light, airy fabrics, and your interiors should reflect that. With the onset of cooler weather, it's time to bring a warmer, cozier feel with thicker blankets, layers, and thicker fabrics, say the pros. According to Farah Merhi, CEO of Inspire Me Home Decor, boucle (a type of textile) can be a great option.
“It's easy to incorporate into everything from accent pillows to accent chairs,” says Melhi, who shares her design ideas with her 7.7 million followers on her Instagram account @Inspire_Me_Home_Decor. “I also love how versatile this fabric is. You can make it look glamorous, casual, or anything in between.”
Layering is also a great way to make your space feel cozier, especially as the weather gets colder. That might mean layering rugs, mixing and matching bedding fabrics, textures, and colors, or layering cushions and other accents on your sofa, chairs, and window seat.
4. Bring in the outside world

Finding great home decor doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg, especially for fall. Designers say going out to your garden is a great way to find nods to the season.
“One budget-friendly way to bring fall into your home is to gather ingredients from the outside environment and bring a little bit of nature indoors, like garden branches or tree cuttings,” says co-founder of interior design firm Metal + , says Jade Joyner. Petals of Athens, Georgia.
Julia Longchamp, founder of Julia Longchamp Design in Maryland, recommends taking “nature walks” and seeing what speaks to you.
“I love cutting branches that are changing color and placing them in fancy vases,” says Longchamp. “Dried hydrangeas and grasses are great because they bring a warm brown color to your home and keep it that way forever, all at no cost.”
5. Warm up your color scheme

Cool blues and bright whites may work well in the summer, but they certainly don't go well with the fall. According to Chloe Hughes, editor-in-chief of design magazine Forter, this season is all about earth tones.
“Add textured fabrics, such as throw blankets and pillows, in rich colors like browns, reds, and oranges,” says Hughes. “Another approach is to focus on a neutral color palette with natural materials and fall accent colors. This can be achieved by incorporating pieces made of wood, stone, and other organic materials. Then consider painting a feature wall that reflects fall colors, such as deep red or orange. This will create a focal point in the room and add some seasonal color to your space.
6. Change the tablescape

Creating new nature-inspired centerpieces is one strategy for bringing your kitchen into fall. In this case, dried flowers are an option.
“These low-maintenance flower arrangements are perfect if you have a garden with seasonal flowers,” Joyner says. “When it's time to trim, pick your favorite flowers and prepare them to dry. If you want to skip the drying process yourself, you can buy already dried flowers from your local florist.”
You can also purchase fall-themed wrapping paper to update the look of your table. Crowder recommends cutting them up and using them as table runners or placemats.
“Using things like wrapping paper and wallpaper allows for a little more flexibility and creativity,” Crowder says. “You can use it, and if you mess it up or someone spills it on you, you can use it as an extra, and it’s not something you have to keep or love forever.”
Fall decor tips if your home is on the market
If you're planning on selling your home this fall, it may be helpful to spruce up your home with fall decor. In fact, according to the National Association of Realtors, nearly one in five buying agents say staging increases their offer by 6% to 15%.
There are many quick and easy ways to present your property in the seasonal light this fall. Probably the easiest thing to do is change the color scheme.

You can also highlight amenities like fireplaces, fire pits, and cozy reading nooks, which become popular during the colder months. Incorporating seasonal scents and flavors is also a smart strategy.
“Warm tones, fluffy throw blankets, the scent of cinnamon, and a crackling fire will bring a smile to your face during the fall season,” says Sara Goss, managing broker at Southwestern Real Estate in Sugar Grove, Illinois. I'm sure he'll give it to me.'' “Try sipping mulled cider in the kitchen or enjoying a s'mores tray by the fireplace. This will evoke warm, fuzzy images of what life in this home will be like.”
There are many options for fall production, but agents say they should avoid overdoing it.
Greg Forrest, senior global real estate advisor at Sotheby's International Realty in Palm Beach, Florida, said: Each room should be staged with its purpose in mind. ”
