Nine people were killed Friday when a van was hit by a tractor-trailer at a state highway intersection in Wisconsin, authorities said.
The fatal crash occurred when a tractor-trailer eastbound on Highway 95 collided with a northbound van that intersected with County Road J in Dewhurst Township, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office. Announced.
Gov. Tony Evers said nine people had died. He told X that he and his wife were saddened by the tragic accident.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of all involved, and to the first responders who worked quickly to provide assistance on the scene,” Evers said. .
The sheriff's office provided few other details about when and how the accident occurred.
The sheriff's office said in an earlier statement: “Pending notification of the family and the conclusion of the investigation, we will not be releasing the name or details of the investigation at this time.”
The expressway remained closed at point J. Dewhurst Township is approximately 140 miles east of Minneapolis.
