The nonprofit organization Heaven's Kitchen launched its first fundraising event on Sunday, March 17, with a crawfish etouffee plate lunch. It was more than just their luck that made the event a success.
The day started off rainy, but that didn't stop the influx of cars as people drove in to pick up plate lunches they had purchased in advance through the organization's fundraising event. His original goal was to sell 200 lunches, but thanks to an outpouring of support from the community, the organization sold out.

Chef Donavan Lewis of BLAQ89 South appeared as a guest chef and served crawfish etouffee over rice. Chef Lewis was inspired to participate in this event to support Heaven's Kitchen's mission through his passion for cooking and positively impacting the community.
Volunteers showed up ready to serve, set up plates, collected tickets and handed out dinners while buyers drove to pick them up. Cars lined up around the block on Franklin Street to buy dinner at Benny's Supermarket, where Heaven's Kitchen's crawfish etouffee was on sale.
This event is just the first of many as Heaven's Kitchen hosts quarterly plate lunches that serve as the main source of income to support the Stepping Stones Foundation.
The next Plate Lunch Sale is scheduled for June 9, 2024. After a huge success with their first plate lunch sale, the organization aims to sell even more at their next fundraiser, so stay tuned for more updates. For more information about this mission, visit Heavenskitchenslp.org.
