A popular local Mexican restaurant has closed indefinitely after a structure fire broke out Sunday afternoon.
Cocina Madrigal, a nationally award-winning and widely known Phoenix restaurant, has closed after a fire broke out in the restaurant's kitchen. The restaurant has won numerous awards and accolades, including being named the #1 restaurant in the United States by Yelp in 2022 and being named one of the top 100 restaurants in the United States in 2020 by USA TODAY.
Phoenix firefighters arrived at the facility around 4:15 p.m. after receiving reports of smoke coming from the building. Crews attacked the flames in the kitchen and evacuated people inside the building while venting smoke from the roof.
According to the station, no one was injured in the fire. However, the store was scheduled to close, although it was unclear how long it would take to recover from the damage.
Investigators are still determining the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage, the police said.
On Sunday, the restaurant announced its closure and posted two stories on its Instagram account thanking the fire department.
“We apologize for the inconvenience, but we will be closed until further notice,” the post said. “Thanks to the Phoenix Fire Department, everyone is safe. We will share updates as they become available.”
A pop-up announcement on the restaurant's website also includes an apology for the closure, but assures us that it is expected to be temporary.
“We look forward to seeing you again!” was the announcement.
