MAHOMET, Ill. (WCIA) — Sourdough is an ancient method of making bread. It is made with simple ingredients: flour, salt, and water. It doesn't contain any unnecessary additives, so it's very healthy! Easy on the stomach, delicious, and fun to make! Morgan Banta, owner of Mo's Dough, is on a mission to bring real bread back to your kitchen for you and your family.
Morgan Banta is a mother of two young children, ages 5 and 3. She says: I love being able to bake bread at home and teach my kids all about sourdough. They already know all the sourdough lingo!'' Morgan is also a nurse, and she has been working as a nurse for 12 years. She said, “I work at Carle Foundation Hospital in the PACU. I loved helping people, and I still do.''
I've always been a baker. When I was little, my grandmother taught me how to roll noodles and make pies. I grew up watching my grandmother cook food from scratch. For me, knowing exactly what's in my food is very important.
I fell into sourdough about 4 years ago. I decided to make my own sourdough starter, Priscilla. It took me nearly two months to be able to bake decent bread, but I kept trying. I persistently practiced, experimented, and tried new techniques until I stuck with it. It was the perfect hobby for me to quiet my thoughts and exercise my hands. Being a mother of two small children can be difficult. Sourdough was a wholesome hobby for me, and everyone seemed to enjoy the fruits of my labor. Giving someone freshly baked bread is one of the best gifts you can give. You know it's nutritious, delicious, and made with love. I want everyone who picks up my bread to feel special. Each loaf is made with intention and care. Each bread is different.
I think people are interested in the art behind sourdough. This process may seem scary at first, but once you try it, you'll find that it's not as difficult as you first thought. It's amazing how you can create such beautiful creations just by mixing flour, water, and salt.
I like making different designs on bread. People are attracted to the beauty of bread.
Sourdough is easier to digest for people with gluten sensitivities. This is due to the sourdough process itself. When people think of sourdough, they think of flavor. Sourdough is actually a bread-making process, not a flavor. Yes, it can sometimes be more sour, but that's not always the case. Depending on the method, sourdough can have a very sour taste or a very mild taste.
We are happy to be able to offer bread that even those with gluten sensitivities can eat with confidence!
I am very knowledgeable about sourdough. I've done years of research and experimentation to get to where I am today. I think it's important to understand why you do something and the reasoning behind it. This is a craft that I practice every day, learn every day, and share with others.
Not only am I a mother and a nurse, I'm also a certified cottage baker. Currently, she has only one oven in her kitchen. I take pride in having a clean kitchen. We do our best to fulfill orders in a timely manner, but please be patient.
