Set in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, 17-year-old Ali (played by Marea Joy Moon) seeks freedom and excitement in the big city, despite her mother's desire to protect her from the harsh truths of the world. With the help of her wise piano teacher, Ali finds a way to navigate the realities of her love, friendship, and race and make this city her own.
From the concert stage to the Broadway stage, iconic R&B and soul artist Keys' music captivates audiences through new mediums. Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays Ali's father Davis, talks about how the story already built within Keyes' musical amplifies the show.
“The great thing about her music is that it's not just musically dynamic, but there's already an emotional story in her music. There's so many stories already there.” Dixon says. “So within the framework of this story on stage, the dynamics of the music and the emotionality of the music really increases…”
Living in New York is a unique experience that only those who have experienced it can understand. hell's kitchen Books by Christopher Diaz are featured. Directed by Michael Greif and choreographed by Camille A. Brown. With a creative team made up of people from New York, hell's kitchen We are trying to capture the identity of the city. For Shoshana Bean, who plays Ali's mother Jersey, the musical is a love letter to the city.
“This is a love letter to a very special part of New York City, and for those of us in the theater community, this is our hood,” Bean says. “But it's also a love letter to the era. It's also a love letter to the '90s.”

The production includes set designer Robert Brill, costume designer Dede Ayite, lighting designer Natasha Katz, sound designer Gareth Owen, projection designer Peter Nigrini, hair and wig designer Mia Neal, and makeup. Up designer Michael Clifton is participating. Danny Murray will serve as production stage manager. Casting will be led by Heidi Griffiths and Kate Murray, with overall management led by Foresight Theatrical.
The music team includes orchestrations by Tom Kitt and Adam Blackstone, and arrangements by Alicia Keys and Adam Blackstone. Lily Lin is the music director and Tom Kitt is the music consultant.
