Located in Old Bethpage, Pearl Kitchen and Cocktails offers a menu of upscale comfort food. The new restaurant was conceived by her four partners, who also own other eateries on Long Island.
Lino Cristo, a partner at Kyma in Roslyn, said some of the owners are childhood friends from Montreal, Canada, and “we always wanted to do something together.” They found an opening in Old Bethpage for a “neighborhood-centered place.”
“Maybe the women are sending their kids to the dance studio next door,” Cristo said. “Now they can come next door and enjoy oysters and wine.'' Here, families and young professionals can enjoy the “miracle'' feeling without having to go miles and cities. It's a place where you can get the best experience possible. He said.
Pearl's price reflects that intention. The most expensive menu item, a 14-ounce strip steak frites, costs $32. Pork chops with hot cherry peppers are $29, and salmon with black lentils and bourbon glaze is $28. A more casual menu item is the roasted beet bowl ($18) with arugula, goat cheese, candied walnuts and quinoa, which can be topped with shrimp, salmon, tuna or chicken. Flatbreads range from simple (Margherita, $16) to complex (the “West Coast” has chicken, avocado, bacon jam, tomato and cheddar jack cheese, $18). Appetizers range from hummus and pita ($12) to breaded buns. shrimp ($16), tuna tartare ($19), and traditional Canadian poutine ($13). Spring brings lunch, brunch and happy hour.
The bar is an integral part of the restaurant, occupying almost a third of the space. Crist said the owners decided to move away from draft beer in favor of “upscale and eclectic” options such as premium bourbon.
