Hot sauce and chili oil entrepreneur Dominic Wolfe of The Wolfe's Kitchen shows you where to eat in London on holiday.
Faran
This lively restaurant in Highbury is run by chef-owner Sebby Holmes and serves up excellent modern Thai cuisine. Every time I go, I am amazed at how beautiful it is. The flavor combinations are incredible. I still dream of shrimp 'mian'. Seafood topped with seasonal fruits and salted peanuts, wrapped in betel leaves and coated with sweet and salty tamarind sauce.
super one
This is a great Thai restaurant with southern Thai influences, thanks to Phuket-born owner Wichet Kompoon. I always think that when I smell this scent, I will be transported to Thailand and I will return home with a full stomach and a happy mood. The menu includes well-known dishes as well as lesser-known dishes such as yum khao he tod, a rice salad with peanuts, herbs and a pungent, punchy dressing.
speed boat bar
I pride myself on my chili-eating abilities, but I probably met my match in the best way at a speedboat bar. Founded by chef Luke Farrell, this restaurant is influenced by Bangkok's Chinatown and offers a compact menu of unfamiliar and exciting cuisine. Every dish I tried packed a great punch with spicy, salty, sour and sweet all coming to me.
tomo pizzeria
Based in Hornsey, North London, this Italian restaurant has been one of my favorite local restaurants ever since it opened over 15 years ago. Family-friendly and affordable, the pizzas are always to die for, as are other dishes such as Gamberoni (huge shrimp in a rich bisque sauce) and squid fritti con zucchini, which my kids love as soon as they arrive. I get sucked into it.
Sen Bet
I love this hidden gem tucked away in the back streets of Kings Cross. This wonderful Vietnamese restaurant is one of my favorite cheap eats in London. My Vietnamese friend Vi took me there. That, too, I would never have known otherwise. Sen Viet, who seems unassuming both inside and out, is constantly reversing the rankings, and with good reason. Vi said the food was super authentic and not only that, but the prices were incredible. The lotus stem salad and coconut chicken curry are delicious.
