Sixty years ago today was the debut of one of the world's most successful cars and my personal favorite, the Ford Mustang.
first generation ford mustang The introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobiles known as pony cars. The Mustang's style, with its long hood and short deck, was very popular and inspired a lot of competition.
The Mustang was introduced as a hardtop and convertible on April 17, 1964, followed by a fastback version in August 1964. Upon its introduction, the Mustang shared a platform with the Falcon and was incorporated into the compact car segment.
The Mustang is currently in its seventh generation.
Ford previewed the seventh-generation Mustang on September 14th at a special event called “The Stampede” at the 2022 Detroit Auto Show.[86][87] As part of its introduction, multiple track-only models were on display, including a NASCAR Cup Series body, a V8 Supercar version, and multiple GT racing versions. At the same time, the addition of the “Dark Horse” series was also announced. Bridging the gap between the Mach 1 and his now discontinued GT350, the dark horse fills much the same role as the 2012-2013 Boss 302 Mustang. This is a road-legal car with enhanced performance on the road course. The seventh-generation Mustang will be assembled at Ford's Flat Rock Assembly Plant and production will begin on May 1, 2023.[88][89] Initially available with a redesigned 2.3L EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder producing 315 hp (235 kW), or 480-486 hp (358-362 kW) in the GT, a revised version producing 500 hp (373 kW). It was equipped with the 4th generation Coyote V8. At Dark Horse.[90][91][92] Three transmissions were offered at launch: Getrag 6-speed manual (GT only), Tremec 6-speed manual transmission (Dark Horse only), or 10-speed automatic transmission (available on all trims).
That's a pretty good track record.
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series For those who want to share a virtual kitchen table with other Daily Kos readers who aren't throwing pies at each other. Please stop by and ask us about music, the weather, the garden, what to cook for dinner, etc. If you're a first-timer, you may notice that many of the people posting in this series already know each other to some degree, but we'd love to welcome guests to our kitchen table and make new friends too .
