“Top Chef” hasn't finished this season's “Last Chance Kitchen” yet, but the second chance after the show has reached a major milestone. In the two-part “Midseason Finale,” the hosts and judges Tom Colicchio Send someone back to the main battle. Watch part 1 above and scroll down for part 2.
Charlie Pierre He competed in the LCK this week after being eliminated in the main competition of Supper Club, where chef testants must team up to create a traditional five-course supper club meal. Pierre was in charge of cooking the losing team's fish, but he overcooked it so much that it ended up cooking. “Getting cut on 'Top Chef' was the worst,” he said. Now, seeking redemption, he says, “I'm doing it for Haiti, I'm doing it for New Orleans, and I'm doing it for my restaurants, my sous chefs, and my cooks. One challenge at a time.'' To go.”
This time's challenge is Carina Bliss and Sue Ann We're taking on a different kind of club: a multi-layered breakfast dish inspired by the club sandwich. And honestly, it's pretty remarkable what the chefs on this show can create in 30 minutes. When the time is up, they present Tom with:
Karina: Toasted croissant, bacon, tomato chutney, poached egg, chipotle olandaise sauce
charlie: Fried plantain, grilled skirt steak, picklis, avocado, and harissa cream sauce sandwich
Sue: Breakfast Club Tonkatsu, egg, fried raisin bread, orange marmalade, cheddar cheese, mornay sauce
In the end, Karina cooked the best dish, so it was up to Tom to decide which other chefs would join her in the second part of this “LCK” battle. But in the end he decides that because the quality of Sue and Charlie's cooking is so close, all three should participate in the next stage to decide who will return to “Top Chef.” did. Carina seemed a little irritated by Tom's surprising phone call. In the end, she outsmarted them both, only for her to have to face them both again. The good news for her is that Tom gave her an advantage in the second round. She has 5 minutes left. It may not sound like a big deal, but Sue admitted, “You're here for life.”
On to part 2! And that was probably the most difficult challenge of all. This time, the three chefs had to create the perfect bite to express themselves as chefs. On the one hand, this may seem a little easier, as it means you have less ingredients to cook. But to express yourself with a sip, it has to be the best, most sophisticated sip you've ever put on a spoon in your life. “Tom, could you please make things easier for us?'' Karina said, using the extra time to organize her workstation a little and gather some supplies. She was inspired by her own foraging experiences. While Charlie concocts a pasta dish in her head and Sue stews over the idea, she's careful not to rush it and ends up with something very interesting for a bite challenge: a Caesar salad. I did.
With just a few seconds left to serve Tom, Carina said, “I hope this is the big thing in my life.''
Karina: Grilled venison, sweet potato with miso puree, mushroom, radish, pear
charlie: Espaghetti with smoked herring, andouille sausage, and egg yolk sauce
Sue: Caesar salad with black garlic and fish sauce dressing, fried anchovies, pecorino and aged balsamic
Phew! I couldn't fit all these words into a spoonful, let alone the ingredients. However, chefs have managed to pack complex and sophisticated flavors and cooking techniques into minimal space. But unfortunately for Charlie, he was defeated by the bane of many “Top Chef” contestants: faulty pasta. Therefore, he was permanently eliminated from the competition, leaving Karina and Sue as the final chefs once again. So who did Tom decide to return to the main event?
both!
To be honest, I think from the moment he introduced Sue as the secret 16th chef testant on “LCK,” it was pretty certain that he would make it to the main show. I'm not saying there was a fix, but it would have been very anti-climactic to have him in LCK only to have him removed in LCK. It would be better for television if he worked his way up the ranks and eventually surprised the other contestants on the main show. I don't think Tom would have allowed dirt to be placed on his plate, but I could see him erring on the side of letting Sue through in a close call. One thing's for sure, though: Sue will be tough to beat in the Quickfire Challenge when she makes it to the “Top Chef” kitchen.
