PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A young boy was arrested Thursday morning in Battle Ground, Washington, after he assaulted his mother with a kitchen pan, knocking her unconscious, authorities said.
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1600 block of SW 4th Street. According to the battleground city, the incident occurred shortly after 8:45 a.m. when a woman reported that her son had assaulted her with a knife and a “blunt object.”
“Upon arrival, officers contacted the adult female victim outside the residence and determined that the juvenile suspect was the only resident remaining in the residence.The suspect has cognitive delays. He was described as a juvenile male who did not communicate with most people,” the official said.
The mother had several cuts on her arms and appeared disoriented when speaking to officers after being hit in the head.She was taken to an area hospital for additional treatment, officials said.
Additional officers secured the scene and were able to negotiate with the juvenile, who was still inside the residence, and persuade him to exit the residence, police said. He was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and domestic violence.
“This was an incredibly difficult situation and I am extremely proud of the officers on the scene,” said Battlefield Police Chief Dennis Flynn. “Their actions will help resolve this potentially volatile situation. Our thoughts are with this young man and his family at this time, and our thoughts are with him and his family. I hope you get medical help.”
The case was transferred to the Clark County Juvenile Prosecutor's Office.
