A Battle Ground mother was assaulted with a knife and a pot by her young son on Thursday morning, leaving her briefly unconscious.
Police said the mother regained consciousness and reported the assault.
The incident occurred at a residence in the 1600 block of Southwest Fourth Avenue.
When Battle Ground police arrived around 8:48 a.m., the mother said her son, who was barely verbal and had developmental delays, slashed her with a knife, hit him in the head with a kitchen pot, and killed himself. He said he may have been injured. .
The woman was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital.
Officers set up a perimeter around the house and used a police car's loudspeaker to persuade the boy to turn himself in. He was taken into custody without incident and booked on suspicion of second-degree assault, or domestic violence. His name and age have not been released.
Police Chief Dennis Flynn said: “This was an incredibly difficult situation and I am extremely proud of the officers on scene.” “Their actions will help resolve this potentially volatile situation. Our thoughts are with this young man and his family at this time, and our thoughts are with him and his family. I hope you get medical help.”
