Wall art tends to be more common in some rooms. Hung in communal living spaces, along hallways, or in private bedrooms, framed prints add texture and visual interest to a space. Pots and pans are common hanging items in the kitchen, but whether you want something minimalist and modern or vibrant and playful, wall art can take your cooking space to the next level.
Room-brightening expert Drew Barrymore is getting on board with the wall art trend in the kitchen.with actors The Drew Barrymore Show The host recently posted a video of her kitchen on her Instagram page, and we were immediately drawn to the small framed portrait hanging above her oven. The dark wood frame and brown tones contrast beautifully with the turquoise painted walls and light wooden countertops.
Drew chose a moody, antique piece, but experts say choosing kitchen art ultimately comes down to personal preference.
“Some people like to take pictures of food growing, being prepared, being eaten, etc., but any theme that makes you feel happy can be used in the kitchen. says designer Kevin Caron. “And that's the secret to where you put art: It has to be something that you like and that evokes an emotion in you.”
Known for his swooping, towering, and often disconcerting works, artist Kevin Caron's inspired sculptures are featured in public and private spaces from coast to coast in the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, the Bahamas, and other countries. You can view it at your location or online at http:/. /www.kevincaron.com 2018 Phoenix Mayor's Visuals Named Artist of the Year, Kevin and his artwork were featured on ABC TV's nationally broadcast 20/20 special. His more than 60 commissions include the monumental sculpture “Top Knot” for Surprise in Arizona's Civic Center Plaza. His monumental sculpture “Wherever You Go, There You Are” was purchased and now stands in front of the Whitaker Museum of Science and Art in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In addition to metal work, Caron is also a pioneer in creating large 3D printed sculptures, his 5-1/2 feet tall.
The beauty of kitchen wall art is that virtually any color scheme will work with your existing palette. But Caron says placement is key to ensuring the work is preserved. Decorating with art is one of the easiest ways to enhance your cooking space, but of course it also comes with challenges that aren't as much of a problem in other rooms in the house.
“It's great if the colors match your kitchen decor, but contrast can also be great,” says Caron. “Make sure you have glass to protect your two-dimensional art, and make sure any sculpture is easy to clean, especially if you're an avid cook like me.”
From a technical point of view, it is important to think about spatial symmetry. A general rule of thumb is to hang your prints at eye level, but this may need to be modified depending on the number of pieces you're hanging.
“One strategy is to hang one large piece of art on a blank wall,” says Denisa Melusova of Dendo Design. “Alternatively, you can create a gallery wall by hanging several small pieces of art in a symmetrical arrangement. This is a great way to add visual interest and texture to a room.”
