A new book has been published celebrating the state's food and the people who make, sell and eat it. In 2018, Janice Thiessen, Kimberly Moore, and collaborator Kent Davis converted a used food truck into a mobile history lab and traveled across Manitoba collecting stories. After conducting nearly 70 interviews, they wrote and released “mmm…Manitoba.” This book combines recipes, maps, archival records, biographies, full-color photographs, and fascinating stories that showcase the state's diverse food history. We have everything from Winnipeg's Fat Boys to Steinbach's Perogies to Churchill's Cloudberry Jam. Great read!

To celebrate what everyone hopes will be a successful run by the Winnipeg Jets in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Pizza Pizza is selling a new Whiteout Pizza. The $12.99 large pie is made with a six-cheese blend, creamy garlic sauce, Parmesan cheese, and roasted garlic. I had it delivered to my house for dinner the other night, and it was delicious. But even if the Jets win, I won't be kissing anyone to celebrate.
New breakfast survey
According to a new study from Dalhousie University, 57% of Canadians eat breakfast every day. 6% don't eat breakfast at all. In Manitoba, the numbers are 59% and 4%. In general, younger people skip breakfast more often than older people. Young-in doesn't drink much coffee either.

Starbucks is turning up the heat with new Spicy Lemonade Refreshers in three tropical flavors. I tried two: spicy strawberry and spicy dragon fruit. I guess I prefer to drink cold drinks without heating them up, but it's always fun to sample something new, so it's worth a try. The third flavor is Spicy Pineapple. Spicy cream cold foam is also available.
Petition for summer extension
64% of Canadians say they want to extend barbecue season. So Hellman's Canada has started a petition to add a day to the summer. Go to Change.Org/CanadaNeedsMay0 to shorten April by one day and replace April 30th with May 0th.
The sign smells like food
McDonald's restaurants in the Netherlands have introduced innovative ways to attract business. The Aromatic Advertising Initiative features logo-less signs that smell like McDonald's. Anyone who approaches within 15 feet of the red and yellow sign will be greeted by the distinct aroma of McDonald's fries. How are you doing? An employee slides a large tray of fries onto the sign and uses a ventilation system to inhale and diffuse the aroma.
