The restaurant, called Seafood City, is inspired by the original Southern seafood boil made famous in the US state of Louisiana, which the group says has been “adopted by the Vietnamese community.”
The concept features a selection of seafood, including lobster, crab, shrimp, oysters, mussels, clams and crawfish, boiled in soup and served with either garlic butter or homemade sauces.
“It's all about jumping in, donning a bib apron, and keeping your hands clean so you can enjoy seafood in an unpretentious way,” said Oliver Ngo, general manager of Vietnam Street Kitchen and Seafood City. I will explain.
“The aim is to bring together friends, family and seafood lovers to enjoy the richness of the ocean in the simplest way possible.
“Boiling seafood is a great way to enhance the flavor and texture of each dish.”
The menu also includes grilled and fried dishes such as lobster rolls. The crab and shrimp burger comes with fries.
The restaurant, which takes over the former Ro's site at Arcadian, will seat 99 people with indoor and outdoor seating.
The brand concept and interior design was overseen by Faber, and features a “bold identity inspired by Japanese typography” with neon colors and bright lighting.
Vietnam Street Kitchen currently operates three restaurants in Birmingham's Bullring and Resorts World.
