Newly renovated kitchens around Falmouth are all different, featuring crisp lines, farmhouse vibes, or bright white cabinetry with dark, moody colors, and they're all on the annual Falmouth Kitchen Tour next month. will be introduced.
A self-guided tour on May 11 will give kitchen enthusiasts and interior design fans alike the chance to explore seven kitchens that look like they've stepped out of the pages of a design magazine.
Event planner Lana Wescott said tour participants had a lot to look forward to this year.
“This is the first year that I feel like we have a very unique kitchen,” Wescott said.
An event planner and interior design fan, Wescott spends every winter scouting kitchens for spring tours. Her local designers, cabinet makers, and tile makers contact her throughout the year to recommend her latest kitchen projects.
If the kitchen is interesting and accessible, Wescott will incorporate it into the tour.
“You look at a gorgeous space and dream about what it would be like in your home,” Wescott said.
Local chefs and culinary creators will also be on tour and stationed in each kitchen on display to provide samples of their signature dishes.
Eva Mulak Blumberg, owner of Spoondrift Kitchen, a private chef and catering service in Falmouth, said she is especially excited about connecting with customers.
“I think the best way to engage is to meet customers face-to-face and share my food,” Mrak-Blumberg said. “I think it’s a really cool idea, and it’s very Maine for people to open their doors to other people.”
The kitchen is often the heart of the home, she said, and she spends a lot of time working in other people's kitchens as a private chef. For her, someone who takes the time to renovate and create a beautiful kitchen means they value the kitchen space in their lives. It becomes a core part of their identity and rituals.
“It's very important to my job,” Mr. Misk-Blumberg said. “I'm always inspired by other people's kitchens.”
Mrak-Blumberg's tasting options include roasted main potatoes with a spring-inspired romesco sauce, as well as other snacks inspired by international cuisines such as Oaxacan and Vietnamese. We are planning to prepare it.
As a philanthropic event, proceeds from the Falmouth Kitchen Tour will benefit culinary scholarships at Southern Maine Community College. Wescott decided to become a beneficiary after hearing about SMCC's culinary program. Wescott believed it was a good fit because of his connections to the hospitality industry.
“I wanted to give back to someone in the hospitality industry,” Wescott said.
Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance online for $30. All tickets purchased after May 1st are $40. The tour begins at the Elisabeth Moss Gallery, located at 251 Route 1 in Falmouth. Tours are self-guided and typically take approximately 3-4 hours to complete.
