promotion: British studio Zaha Hadid Design has created an updated version of the winding cove kitchen that offers the “flexibility of a modular system” to celebrate Italian brand Boffi's 90th anniversary.
Made from moldable materials such as Corian and wood, the 2024 Cove Kitchen has a sleek, sinuous shape.
It's a continuation of the customizable island that Zaha Hadid Design launched with Boffy in 2017, which was incorporated into the company's 520 West 28th project, which was then nearing completion in New York's Chelsea neighborhood.
Designed to celebrate Boffi's 90th anniversary, the new Cove kitchen has been developed to eliminate the large cavity at the front that characterized the previous design.
Instead, the new model has two side panels with rounded corners and a gentle curve along the downward-pointing perimeter.
Zaha Hadid Design said: “To coincide with the 90th anniversary of Boffi, a brand that embodies Italian elegance, craftsmanship and design integrity, the new pieces are originals developed by Zaha Hadid Design in 2017. It evolved from the cove concept of
“Following the inherent logic of its predecessor while offering the flexibility of a modular system, this new iteration is supported laterally by two panels with rounded edges, both of identical sections. , covering the entire side of the island,” he added.
The 2024 Cove kitchen features marble countertops in shades of gray and is sloped to create a streamlined aesthetic. It will be available for purchase after the end of this year's annual Milan Design Week.
Boffi said the design came from the “visionary mind” of Zaha Hadid, founder of the studio of the same name, who passed away in 2016.
“The Cove Kitchen is born from the visionary mind of Zaha Hadid, transforming a work island into a convivial space that combines architectural rigor and forward-thinking concepts,” the brand says.
The original Cove Kitchen design by Zaha Hadid Design is based on the studio's famous MAXXI National Museum of the 21st Century Museum in Rome and Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku.
Boffi has developed its products in collaboration with many famous designers and architectural studios. Previous examples include the Combine Evolution Kitchen by Italian architect Piero Lissoni and the modular kitchen system by Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola.
