Smart kitchen designs typically focus on functionality and ease of use, but that doesn't mean you can't also choose layouts and styles that inspire curiosity and adventure.
Exhibit A: The colorful home kitchen of designer Fitore Syla (@sylafitore), co-founder of interior design studio Muza. A combination of practicality and wonder. And that was exactly the intention. “Each project allows me to play with shape, color, and form in new ways,” Fitore says of the design process.
When Fitore moved into a 936-square-foot apartment in Pristina, Kosovo, with her partner Alianit Fazliu and their children, it was completely empty and they had no chance to create their own colorful space, including the kitchen. did it. It was a completely blank slate.
“The inspiration for the new kitchen came naturally,” says Fitore. “We wanted to incorporate yellow and a prominent hood. Once we found the backsplash tile, everything fell into place.”
She brought yellow into the room by painting some of the NCS “S 2070-Y” kitchen cabinets, including the imperfect spherical knobs.
Fitore said he did something unconventional to incorporate texture. “By using striped wood, we wanted to break away from traditional kitchen cabinetry for a vibrant and unique feel.” And the fun doesn't stop there. Fitore also handmade the pendant above his kitchen table using a real gourd.
Once the couple finalized the 3D design, the entire project took three months to complete.
In addition to a colorful backsplash and textured plywood cabinets (also adorned with knobs painted in NCS's “S 5030-R”), the kitchen features a bar next to the oven, just below the window. There are many other playful details, such as: It seats two people and is made of oak cut into a wavy pattern.
“Every part of the apartment is custom-built by skilled local carpenters in Koros, Kosovo, with great attention to detail,” says Fitore.
Of all the spaces, Fitore admits that the newly updated kitchen has become her favorite room in the house. “I love the boldness and unique yet functional design it brings to our home. It's the heart of our home and the place we gather after a long day,” she explains. . “And in the afternoon, when the sun goes down, the view from the kitchen is truly spectacular. But what I cherish most is the aroma of cooking that fills the house.”
The kitchen may be Fitore's favorite room, but it's just one great example of how color and shape are used in the rest of the gorgeous home. Check out Apartment Therapy's complete home tour to learn more.
