An attempted armed robbery in Hell's Kitchen Sunday morning ended in chaos, with a gunman fatally shooting the victim and his accomplice, authorities reported.
According to police officials, a 35-year-old man was walking at West 50th Street and 12th Avenue around 4:30 a.m. on April 28 when two men approached him and tried to pull the chain from his neck. .
Police said the man returned fire and the attackers brandished firearms, prompting a hail of bullets.
During the chaos, the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the arm. Police said one of the robbers struck his partner, a 21-year-old man, in the leg and chest.
Police officials said the suspects fled in a white Honda Accord. Detectives later learned that the injured suspect was taken by private means to NYU Langone Medical Center, where he is currently receiving treatment and is expected to survive.
Meanwhile, emergency services transported the robbery victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he is recovering.
