LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Millions of people visit Las Vegas each year for gaming, entertainment and dining out. Las Vegas Strip real estate is doing everything it can to reduce its carbon footprint and create greener habits.
This is an ongoing partnership that RENUoil of America's Raul Salas maintains with Aria Resort and other MGM properties.
In the kitchen, extend the life of frying oil and keep food quality fresh.
“We actually come in every night and we have a machine that actually removes the oil from the fryer, and that machine actually filters the oil so it can be reused again in the same fryer,” Salas said. I did.
Their oil filtration program also helps reduce oil costs.
“So typically our average customer sees about a 40% to 50% reduction, so whatever they were using before they were able to get the reduction,” Salas added.
On average, RENUoil technicians clean 70 fryers per night. This equates to up to 560 gallons of oil. Once all impurities are removed, the oil can be used for an additional day or two. Recycling oil also helps reduce packaging materials.
“There are also no unnecessary boxes thrown away, and it's very powerful to think about how much you can save in every way,” Salas explained.
The recovered oil is converted into biothane. This is a patented biodiesel that is also used in community vehicles such as school buses that use renewable fuels.
This effort has been in the works for more than a decade, and Salas said he is proud to be a part of our community's environmental campaign.
“You're supporting the sustainability of a huge gaming industry, and you're also providing great service at the same time. It feels really good,” he said.
Be careful never to throw cooking oil down the kitchen sink. The solidified oil can be safely disposed of in the trash.
