My sister-in-law Nancy's 62nd birthday is April 23rd. Brother Amos died suddenly six years before her, leaving Nancy a widow. Wishing her a wonderful birthday, Nancy!
Last Friday night, Joe and I attended a school program at my granddaughter Caitlin's school. It was the last school day of the season. I think there are 30 students in her school. Two of her students received her 8th grade diploma and completed their studies. They sang quite a few songs for us and afterwards we were served a Haystack dinner. The haystack is made up of layers of burgers topped with different vegetables, toppings, and taco seasoning. The teachers did a great job of getting the children to harmonize with the songs. Caitlin loves to sing at her house and her siblings love it too. Very valuable!
Irvin, Susan, and their six children came here after the program. We made popcorn and played games. Joe and I were the only people home at the time, so I was glad they came.
Thursday night we will be attending Norman and Katie Ann's wedding dinner. We wish them a happy marriage under God's control. Son Joseph and his special friend Grace will be the wedding night servers.
Katie Ann is Tim's niece with his daughter Elizabeth, so Elizabeth will be the cook at their wedding. Today, Elizabeth will help prepare for her wedding, so she leaves Alison and Andrea here.
I'm sure I'll be busy over the next few months preparing for the wedding of my daughters Lovina and Danielle. This is the first of my daughters to get married in the spring. Everyone is mowing and cultivating their gardens. I love this time of year! We have not planted any more in the garden yet. The forecast calls for several cold nights this week, so I'll wait until next week.
There was no heat in the house and it was getting cold, so Joe lit the coal stove again last night. It's too warm here so I have to open some windows, but it's better than cold. I told Joe that sewing is difficult when the house is cold.
My daughter Loretta and sons Denzel and Byron were here this morning and it was nice and warm for the little boys. Denzel couldn't sleep until Grandpa Joe left for work. He sat at the table with Joe and they ate breakfast together. He looks great sitting next to Joe while eating breakfast early in the morning.
On Sunday, we spent a day of fasting and prayer in preparation for Holy Communion the following Sunday, according to the Lord's will. For lunch I made mashed potatoes, beef and noodles, taco salad and cheese. My daughters Loretta and Dustin and my son joined us for lunch. They brought baked beans.
For dinner that evening, Dustin brought chicken and pork loin, so the guys grilled it, and we had mashed potatoes, beef and noodles (leftover from lunch), baked beans (leftover from lunch), I made taco salad and cheese. My daughter Elizabeth, Tim, and their four children joined us for dinner and brought apple pie. Along with the pie, we also had ice cream and a simple cake made by my daughter Lovina. She combined a box of angel food cake mix and a can of lemon pie filling and baked it at 350 degrees for about 30 to 40 minutes, or until the cake started to brown and crack.
The cake was quick and very delicious. Next time I'll try strawberry or blueberry pie filling. It's very easy and only requires two ingredients.
God bless you all!
