Meyers styled the MD Home runner in this Fredericksburg, Virginia, kitchen. “While I'm definitely going for the simplicity of the colors – blues and neutrals – I fell in love with the geometric motifs,” Meyer says. She noted that the kitchen connects to different rooms within the main living area and is rich in color. She “felt it was important that the kitchen not only stand up to it, but be neutral,” adds the designer.
How can I decorate my kitchen in an easy way?
It is important to practice moderation when decorating your kitchen. Do your best to take a minimalist approach. “Less is more,” Chaudhry says. “Just like accessorizing an outfit, moderation is key. More decorations on shelves and kitchen countertops will take up less space to work with and make the space feel smaller.” Be sure to leave some empty space, the designer added.
treat plates as decorations
Pots, pans, and beautiful plates shine in the Churchville, Maryland, kitchen. The building was designed by Tanya Smith-Shiflett of Unique Kitchens and Baths, who worked in partnership with Winsome Interior Design in Lutherville, Maryland. “Open display shelving was very important to our design,” says Smith-Shifflett, noting that the client wanted a place to display her ceramics collection. “The finishes we used are intended to age and develop a patina over time, exuding a functional yet ‘lived-in’ aesthetic,” adds the designer. “So we wanted the decor to have the same feel.”
