Somerville Bike Kitchen will hold its annual Bike Pageant this weekend, Sunday, May 19th, in the courtyard of Aeronaut Brewing, located at 14 Tyler Street.
Organizers describe the pageant as “a unique, fun, creative, colorful and one-of-a-kind motorcycle celebration.”
The festival begins around 1pm and registration will be held on the day. Voting will take place from 2 to 3 p.m., followed by a “ceremony” for prizes and winners.
Participation in this pageant is free, but participants are encouraged to pre-register at this link if they think their vehicle may be a candidate.
The organizer will distribute prizes in the following categories:
- Small Wheel Club (at least one wheel must be less than 26 inches)
- Single (1) Speed
- 3 speed / internal gear hub / Derailleur Prevention Association
- parts box
- vintage
- Tandem
- the most beautiful paint
- commute
- road/touring
- cargo/utility
- fun and weird
In case of inclement weather, the event will be held indoors at the Somerville Bike Kitchen shop located at 15 Properzi Way.
Somerville Bike Kitchen is a nonprofit bicycle repair shop run by volunteers.
When they're not competing in beauty contests, the kitchen also hosts weekly open shop nights where people can stop by to learn about bike maintenance, bike repair and cycling in general.
Open Shop Nights are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm to 9pm at 15 Properzi Way.
