The water dispenser on my old Maytag refrigerator kept working forever, forcing me to disconnect the water line from the wall. Repairs on circa 2010 models would probably have been expensive, but even appliance experts and plumbers couldn't pinpoint the cause. So I decided to get a new model. And for now we're excited about the new one LG Studio French Door model.
Honestly, if I knew what I was missing when it came to modern technology, I would have upgraded a long time ago. First of all, the LG has the same external size as the previous refrigerator, but has significantly more internal storage capacity. My wife and I both quickly realized that we could probably store another 25 percent more groceries inside his LG, which has a nominal capacity of 27 cubic feet. And there are plenty of drawers and shelves to keep everything organized.
The second advantage is that the water dispenser is located on the inside on the left side, rather than integrated into the door like in previous models. It's rational and very sensitive. As a result, the front of the door is flat and smooth, making it appear more flush with the counter. I liked how the older model sprayed water everywhere and always had ice cubes on the floor, even when the door dispenser was working properly. LG's ice tray resides in the bottom drawer of the freezer, allowing you to finally control how many ice cubes you use for your drinks instead of having them forced through the door. Ice frequently flies out of the door, causing drinks to splatter. shoot.
And this new model is surprisingly quiet. The only sound we hear, albeit faint, is the ice maker occasionally producing more cubes. Additionally, it has an “Ice Plus” feature that allows you to increase cube production if you have a large number of guests. My wife was initially worried that the refrigerator would lose its coolness every time she opened the door to get water, but thankfully there is a “Door Cooling+” vent at the top of the fresh food section. The interior of the refrigerator can be kept cool every time the door is opened. It blows cold air into all areas to maintain a consistent temperature from top to bottom. Another feature that is nice for my family is that the appliances make a subtle noise, which is easy to hear if you leave the door open for a long time. So this is a welcome reminder to close.
In fact, the digital control panel is smartly recessed to the right as soon as you open the door. My only issue with this refrigerator is that the controls on its panel are almost impossible to read since the interior is all charcoal gray metal. For the first few days I had to hold a flashlight over it to get everything set up the way I wanted it. Still, I couldn't actually read it all. However, once everything is configured, there is no need to configure it again.
This model is compatible with the LG ThinQ smartphone app, which allows you to control precise freezer and refrigerator temperatures and monitor refrigerator efficiency via WiFi. All sounds great, but our kitchen is his one WiFi dead spot zone in the house. So I couldn't test it. We ordered the stain-resistant matte Essence White model. This goes well with all white cabinets.
I'm particularly interested in how the above-average energy efficiency of this “Energy Star Certified” model, which LG touts on the yellow card that comes with the machine, relates to your actual electricity bill. is to see. My guess is that your bill will probably be lower because of the technology inside the machine. In fact, this refrigerator uses LED panels inside, which provides a very bright interior and saves more energy than traditional lighting. When you open the door, you'll notice that the lights are brighter.
Probably the biggest surprise for me so far is that after two weeks of experience with this refrigerator, I didn't realize how bad the old unit was. LG Studio has set a whole new and higher benchmark.
