This year's 2024 Chita Rivera Awards included Illinois Broadway productions “The Outsiders'' and “Water for Elephants.''
Award nominees considered outstanding choreography in a Broadway show, featured dancers and ensembles, and outstanding choreography in a film released in the 2023-2024 season.
The Chita Rivera Award was presented at the New York University Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, 566 LaGuardia Place near Washington Square Park, and was presented by Joe Lantelli, founder and executive director of the New York City Dance Alliance Foundation, in collaboration with Patricia Watt. The mission of the Chita Rivera Awards is to celebrate excellence in dance and choreography, preserve remarkable dance history, and recognize talent of the past, present, and future, while promoting high standards of dance education and investing in the next generation.
At this year's Chita Rivera Awards, Bernadette Peters received the Lifetime Achievement Award and Maite Natalio (Safs) received the Douglas and Ethel Watt Critics' Choice Award.

As was the case last year, the Broadway show's Outstanding Dancer category is gender-neutral. There are twice as many candidates in this category as there were in the previous gender categories. There are 2 winners.
All proceeds from the Chita Rivera Award will benefit the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation Scholarship Program. The NYCDA Foundation is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) dedicated to expanding awareness of the performing arts while advocating for high standards of education and excellence in dance.
This year, all funds and proceeds will support the creation of the new Chita Rivera Training Scholarship.
