Malik Grant, 29, was arrested on May 17 after allegedly stealing several packages of candy from Savannah's Candy Kitchen. Officers were contacted by the “Nashville Safety Ambassador.” The “Ambassador” told officers about the incident and pointed to Mr. Grant standing in front of his patrol car. Officers observed Mr. Grant holding several bags of candy and popcorn with price tags on them. Officers attempted to speak to Mr. Grant, but he refused and stared at the “Ambassador.” Officers then attempted to detain Mr. Grant, but Mr. Grant began yelling and threatening the officers. Grant continued to yell and stated that he would kill the officers and the “Ambassador” or “beat him in the ass.” While speaking with Grant, officers observed signs of intoxication and a large cup that smelled like an alcoholic beverage. During the investigation of the alleged theft, officers spoke with the manager of Savannah's Candy Kitchen. She stated she witnessed Grant steal multiple bags of candy and quickly leave. As officers placed Grant in his patrol vehicle, he kicked in one of the windows and fled. Officers then attempted to restrain Grant's legs, but he let go and attempted to run from officers again. Malik Grant was transported to the reservation and charged with public intoxication, criminal damage to property, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Malik D. Grant was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail on May 17 on charges of public intoxication, criminal damage to property, and resisting arrest. The judicial commissioner set his bond at $2,000.
