A new restaurant, Cute Robot Japanese Kitchen, is scheduled to open in Walker's Point this summer.
While its cyborg-themed name may raise fears of world domination, the business only plans to occupy one location: 704 S. 2nd St., the former site of The Noble. .
The previous restaurant, known for its diverse menu and cozy atmosphere, quietly closed last August after 12 years in business.
Instead, industry veterans Janet Bottner And her husband, markwants to create a new hub for Japanese-inspired food, drink, and decor.
The concept is personal for Bottner, who is half Japanese: In her previous ventures, she has highlighted childhood favorites like Japanese curry and omurice.
The new restaurant will further expand its selection, offering a wide range of casual, hearty dishes such as katsu curry, rice balls, gyoza and takoyaki.

The proposed menu also includes Nagoya-style chicken wings, Japanese-style fries, crispy fried chicken, and Japanese-style macaroni salad, all served with a variety of toppings from spicy shrimp patties to fresh fruit and whipped cream. , Japanese-style sandwiches on fluffy milk bread.
There are limited lunch menus such as soy sauce butter noodles, Godzilla burger, and katsudon.
Cute Robot expects to generate about 20% of its revenue from alcohol sales, according to its license application. However, the company has not yet released the drink menu.
In addition to their family experience, the Bottners have worked professionally in the industry for more than 20 years, having worked on establishments such as the now-closed Konohana and were previously involved with Red Maple, a Japanese izakaya restaurant located a few blocks south of Cute Robot's storefront.
Red Maple was once slated to house a restaurant, Lucky Cat Curry House, but those plans have not moved forward. Instead, the tavern will offer patrons a limited menu on certain days and plans to open its own food truck in the near future.
Cute Robot will occupy the first and second floors of the Walker's Point building, as well as a spacious outdoor patio. Ahead of opening, the Bottners plan to spruce up the interior with fresh paint, new flooring and updated kitchen equipment, the licensing application states.
The building itself is Dieter Wegneris located between Sabatique and Walker's Point Tattoo Company.
The store's liquor license is pending with the Milwaukee City Council. If all goes well, the new restaurant could open as early as July.
Cute Robot's hours of operation will be Tuesday through Thursday from 11am to 9:30pm and Friday through Saturday from 11am to 10pm.
