An inquest has heard that a five-year-old boy died after falling from a kitchen window on the 15th floor of a high-rise building in east London.
Aalim Ahmed, formerly known locally as Aalim Makair, landed on the bottom fence of a housing block in Plaistow.
The body was identified by the family and the cause of death was said to be multiple traumatic injuries due to a “fall from a height.”
Walthamstow Coroner's Court heard that Aalim died instantly and his body was discovered by his father just before 6am BST on May 16.
“Not due to natural causes”
Residents called emergency services after hearing a man's “distressed” screams.
The inquest heard that paramedics arrived at the scene outside Jacobs House, New City Road, at 6.04am, with police arriving three minutes later.
Assistant Coroner Ian Wade KC said he was “convinced that Mr Ahmed's death was not natural” and would launch a “post-mortem investigation”.
Newham Council is investigating the situation.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation to understand as fully as possible what happened and will fully support any other investigations,” the council's chief executive, Abi Gbago, said in a statement.
“We will provide an update as soon as possible once all relevant facts have been determined and our investigation has concluded.”
Caroline Stone, principal of New City Primary School in Plaistow, paid tribute to Aalim in the school's weekly newsletter.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” she wrote.
