FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Great Wall Kitchen in Farmingdale reopened Thursday, months after the Chinese restaurant was badly damaged in an accident caused by a drunk driver, the restaurant announced on Facebook.
Great Wall Kitchen, located at 47-4 Boundary Ave., was “devastated” in a car accident on Jan. 26, said Kevin Chen, whose parents own the restaurant.

According to Nassau police, Lauren Potter, 39, was driving a 2011 Mercedes-Benz north on North Broadway when she went off the road and struck a parked 2018 Toyota. The unoccupied Toyota then ran into a storefront, followed by the Mercedes-Benz, police said. Potter was charged with DUI and third-degree assault.
“This has been a tough time for our family, but we are incredibly grateful for the support of our community, which has allowed us to move forward,” Chen wrote on Facebook. “And after months of recovery and rebuilding, we are excited to announce that we will be reopening our restaurant on Thursday, May 30th, 2024!”
Since the accident, a GoFundMe page has raised more than $75,000 for the Chen family.
“As a local, immigrant-owned, family-owned business that has been serving the Farmingdale community for over 25 years, your support means the world to us,” Chen wrote. “If you're in the area, please come along on our reopening day and celebrate by enjoying some of your favorite dishes!”
