There are plenty of creative ways to make driving easier. Everyone has their own tricks, from placing cup holders next to the front seat to keeping essentials close at hand. But Brittany Nash, known on TikTok as @asian.barbiee, claims that one strange tool is making driving less convenient. She says many drivers struggle to get tickets, receipts, and other documents from the driver's seat. Many try to stretch as far as they can to reach the counter. Plus, it's a pain to pull over at the perfect distance to get work done. But Nash recommends this “tool” to make things simpler.
She admits she's not a very good driver and tries to make things easier for herself and others. Her tools have always helped her, and she credits it to a simple item from her kitchen. “Every time someone new gets in my car, they ask me, 'Britt, why do you have tongs?'” Nash said, pointing to a pair of tongs she keeps in her kitchen to cut chicken, vegetables, and other items. She surprises people by saying it's the tool that helps her out in times of inconvenience. “I say, 'Good question, but I have a better answer,'” Nash said.
“I'm a bad driver. I accept that. You know when you come to that little gate when you park your car?” Nash emphasized. She was pointing to a drive-through counter for handing over cash and receipts. “I can't get close enough to the ticket machine,” she revealed. This was supposed to be a quick way for drivers to pick up their ticket while still in their car and drive off. For Nash, this was becoming a problem, which is when she came up with the idea for the tongs. “We buy my handy little tongs to pick up the ticket,” she said, demonstrating with the tongs in hand.
During the demonstration, she sat in the driver's seat, comfortably extending a pair of tongs as she pretended to pick a lock. The idea is that using the tongs gives you extra length to reach out and grab what you need. “They always laugh at me when there's someone in the back, but I'd rather be the weirdo with the tongs and the quietly clever one than be the one who does this,” Nash exclaimed, pretending to be someone struggling again and again to reach the window. Struggling is much more embarrassing, she said, than using the tongs. “Tongs for life,” she concluded.
Many were baffled by the idea and chose to take the hard way. Some suggested Nash should learn to park and stop closer. @snowyowl58 wrote, “I can't do this!” and @therealestnoah6 said, “Just drive a little closer each time until you get it right.” However, many others sympathized with the embarrassing awkwardness and supported the idea. @winnie20165 wrote, “I always have to park and undo my seat belt to reach through the window or open the door.” @ishitafterdiary2 commented, “I see you do this all the time. Genius.” @alondono123 added, “You can use the back to type in numbers.” @rebeccajanesingh exclaimed, “I'll do this too. Go get some silicone grip tongs.”
