Tony Award-nominated performer Shoshana Bean visited CBS Mornings on Friday for her annual “Road to the Tonys” series, which spotlights different nominated shows and performers during Tony Awards season.
Bean was at the show to discuss the musical “Hell's Kitchen,” which has been nominated for 13 Tony Awards, tying it with “Stereophonic” for the most nominations of the season.
During the interview, Bean highlighted the difficulty of adjusting to playing an older character on the show.
“that [the praise for Hell’s Kitchen] It's really special because getting older in this industry is hard. And it was hard for me to accept that I was finally going to play a mother at this stage in my career… It was a struggle with my ego going into this.”
“This is not a Broadway 'average mom.' We're rewriting old, tired paradigms with these characters,” Bean added.
She called working with Alicia Keys “the greatest gift of this project,” saying “she tried to highlight what is unique about each of us.”
