St. George — A St. George woman was forced to do an unexpected kitchen renovation after accidentally turning her car into a home improvement tool and driving it straight from her garage into her kitchen.
Firefighters were dispatched to a home near West Canyon View Drive and South Gap Canyon Parkway after reports of a vehicle crashing into a house and threatening a fire, according to Capt. Justin Snyder with the St. George Fire Department.
Once firefighters arrived on scene, they shut off all electrical breakers in the home to ensure the safety of the residents.
“We could actually see that the smoke was coming from the tires,” Snyder said, “and she still had her foot on the gas.”
Paramedics extricated the woman from the vehicle and took her to Gold Cross Ambulance for a medical evaluation.
Meanwhile, the fire department thoroughly inspected the structural integrity of the home to ensure it was safe for the vehicle removal operation.
The driver involved in the accident also lived at the home, and Snyder suggested the woman may have accidentally put her car in drive instead of reverse, which may have caused the accident.
Possibly due to driver error, the car went through a garage wall and into the kitchen, coming to rest next to the dining room table.
Snyder noted that the driver was evaluated by medical teams on scene but declined further treatment and sought refuge at a nearby home.
The report is based on court records and statements from police and other responders and may not contain the full scope of the findings.
