Palm Beach County Food Bank expands community kitchen
Okay, Sandra. Thank you. Covering your community, tomorrow there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Palm Beach County Food Bank's Community Kitchen. Joining me with more details on this new member is the bank's CEO, Jamie Kendall. Jamie, it's great to have you with us again. Tell us a little bit about what's going to happen tomorrow and what it means for the community. Absolutely. We're very excited. Thank you for having me to talk to you about this. Tomorrow we're opening our new kitchen expansion project that's been about two and a half years in the making. It's finally nearing completion and we're very excited about what it can do for the community. However, instead of actually cutting the traditional ribbon, we're going to break bread. Perfect. So to celebrate the opening of our new kitchen project, we're going to have a 12-foot loaf of bread come out and we're going to cut it together. Jamie, let's talk about what this means in terms of producing more meals for the community. Absolutely. We know that 173,000 people in Palm Beach County alone suffer from food insecurity. They may not even know where their next meal is coming from. So we really looked at what we could do to expand our services to get food to those in need, and hot nutritious meals came to mind. We work with children and seniors to make sure that nutritious meals are given and delivered to them. We provide meals so that they can live healthy, active lives. And Jamie, after talking to some food banks in the area, we found that there is a great need for donations. And we always say how much just one dollar can do. You think, Oh, maybe I can't help that much. So, I don't. But yeah, one dollar goes a long way. One dollar goes a long way. Through our various programs, we can provide five meals for just one dollar. We rely heavily on donors, the community, and supporters who see that we are in need and want to do something to give back to the community. So, what would you say to people who want to benefit from the services of the food bank? Of course. With the new community kitchen, we plan to expand our various programs. With our volunteer program, we will expand our large, air-conditioned space so that volunteers can come. This space has been very well received and volunteers can come and volunteer and donate and support various programs to make sure nobody goes to bed hungry. In Palm Beach County. Okay. Jamie, did I forget anything? No. Go to the PBC Food Bank webpage and find out more. Okay. Thank you so much for your time this morning. If you'd like more information,
