Coach Mox is on a recruiting spree again. Fresh off adding four transfer students in April and May, the Virginia women's basketball team has landed another high school recruit. On Wednesday afternoon, four-star guard Camryn Kitchen committed to the University of Virginia.
Amaka Agugua Hamilton confirmed the signing of Kitchen, who was originally a 2025 class member but has been reclassified to 2024 and will join the program for the 2024-2025 school year.
Kitchen, a 5-foot-9 guard out of Independence High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, was rated as a four-star prospect in the class of 2025 and 57th overall in the nation by ESPN's HoopGurlz rankings. Kitchen amassed an impressive offer list, narrowing it down a few weeks ago to six schools – Illinois, Louisville, Marquette, Virginia Tech, Virginia and Penn State – before announcing last week that he has reclassified to the class of 2024 and will jump straight into college basketball next season.
Kitchens ultimately chose the Cavaliers and will join fellow four-star Breonna Hurd (Waynesville, Missouri) in Virginia's recruiting class.
In his final season at Independence High School, Kitchen shot 54 percent from the field and 42 percent from 3-point range, setting the school's career 3-point shot record with 200 made 3-pointers in just three seasons. Kitchen was named the 2023 Southwestern 4A Player of the Year and is a two-time All-District selection. He was also one of just 14 players invited to Stephen Curry's shooting camp last summer and competed for Team Curry on the summer traveling circuit.
“We are very excited to officially welcome Cam to our family,” Coach Mox said of Kitchens. “From her first visit to the University of Virginia several years ago, it was clear that she would fit seamlessly into our culture. Cam is a high-integrity student-athlete who knows how to work hard on and off the court. She will be graduating high school early and enrolling at Virginia this August, which is a true testament to her dedication and work ethic. Cam is a shooter who has added so much versatility to her game over the past few years and will bring a different dynamic to our offense. Wahoo Nation, you're going to love her.”
