Virginia women's basketball coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton could be described as a master chef when it comes to creating recipes for building programs, and she further honed that talent on Wednesday by signing four-star prospect Camryn Kitchen for next season.
Kitchens, a 5-foot-9 shooter out of Independence High School in Charlotte, N.C., is ranked as the No. 57 overall prospect in the nation for the Class of '25, according to ESPN rankings publication Hoop Gurlz.
“We are so excited to officially welcome Cam to our family,” said Agugua-Hamilton, known to University of Virginia fans simply as Coach Mox. “From her first visit to the University of Virginia several years ago, it was clear that she would seamlessly integrate into our culture.
“Cam is a high-integrity student-athlete who knows how to work hard on and off the court. She will be graduating high school early and enrolling at the University of Virginia this August, which is a true testament to her dedication and work ethic. She is a shooter who has added great versatility to her game over the last few years and will bring a different dynamic to our offense. Wahoo Nation, you're going to love her.”
Kitchens has certainly built a reputation as a good shooter — she set Independence's record for 3-pointers made (200) in just three seasons and shot 42% from the bonus sphere (54% from the field) as a junior last season — and was one of just 14 elite shooters in the country invited to Stephen Curry's shooting camp a year ago.
She was a two-time all-district performer and was named the 2023 Southwestern 4A Player of the Year.
