PIERCETON — Barefoot Cottage sells a variety of home goods and gifts.
“We have refurbished items, antiques, a lot of handcrafted items and barn materials that we use to make things,” Joe Mishler said, adding that there are new items as well.
Mishler, along with Brad Fischer, are co-owners of the store, located at 303 N. First St., Unit A, in Pierceton. The Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce held a grand opening ceremony for the store on Tuesday, June 11.
Family and friends help run Barefoot Cottage, including Mishler's daughter, Darien Todd.
Mishler sold home goods such as Barefoot Cottage at her North Webster store, but closed it to focus on other things.
But she kept buying, and “eventually it was just too much,” Todd said.
“Then this became available so I jumped on it and we added our own little twist to the inside because it was what I had envisioned,” Mishler said.
The store opened in March and was previously only open on Fridays and Saturdays, but will now have expanded hours to 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Friday and 10am to 4pm on Saturdays.
Barefoot Cottage's name reflects Mishler's lifestyle, Todd said.
“My mom is barefoot at heart. She doesn't like to wear shoes,” she said. “The name is fitting, it's very rustic.”
“We grew up on the lake,” Mishler said of the Lake Wawasee area.
She said through Barefoot Cottage she repairs furniture for people and plans to help others do the same.
“We have all the materials you need to make your own furniture, and we're hoping to get to the point where we can offer booth space and even hold classes a few times a month,” Mishler said.
Todd added that through Barefoot Cottage, “we hope to continue to offer these products and furniture at a fair price so that everyone can afford them.”
