EAST TEXAS (KLTV/KTRE) – This week on Kitchen Pickin', we bring you a unique item that Jeff found twice in the same day.
Starbucks Mug
Jeff: The mugs continue to be restocked, and although the value of the mugs continues to decrease, they are still worth the $1 price tag. Plus, if you're looking for a coffee mug, they're great quality. Not sure who needs another mug, though. Even if the apocalypse is looming, coffee mugs and cockroaches will likely survive.
Steph: Absolutely! It's definitely worth the price, sturdy and looks great. What's not to like, especially at this price?
Pier 1 Mug
Jeff: Another BOLO brand, the brand is experiencing a resurgence in terms of resale since Pier 1 closed its brick-and-mortar stores.
Steph: I'd never used this type of mug before, so I did a bit of research to find out more about the design. I discovered that it was made by the Crown Lynn Ceramics Company of New Zealand. The company opened in 1854 and was in business until 1989. They were known for their practical, durable designs and are said to have created this original cup design. I'm glad I found that out today. This is why choosing vintage items is so much fun for me.
Kitchen Boa
Jeff: I didn't even know this existed until I opened a discarded box last week. This seems like such a convenient way to keep your hands clean. I like to think of it as an apron for your hands.
Steph: What a cute idea to decorate your kitchen with boas. Feathers are out of the question in this case, but these cute holiday towels are perfect. I've never seen them before.
Nutcracker/Bowl
Jeff: This is an interesting find that I found twice in one day. It's something I'd never seen before. The first time I found it, it didn't have a nutcracker so I passed it up. The second time was at a private estate sale and this time it had everything. I thought it was a nice vintage find but after looking at comparisons it didn't seem to sell very well so I passed it up again. However, the kind lady at the house made me feel a little guilty so I decided to take it. It would make a good Father's Day gift for my father-in-law who loves pecans.
Steph: Love this find! Such a unique Foubois design. Foubois means “fake wood” in French. They were known for their artistic renderings of wood and grain in a variety of mediums, including ceramic and stone. Martha Stewart created some demand for Foubois items with her collection of outdoor planters, kitchen serving platters, and other items for the home and garden.
