What happens when you combine an NFL legend with a design industry icon? Tom Brady's wooden kitchen is born, featuring natural, unpainted cabinetry that experts say offers the most timeless aesthetic.
Brady pairs wooden kitchen cabinetry with white marble backsplash and countertops (a beloved material for its timelessness). H&G Editor Jennifer Ebert says that wood cabinets will look just as beautiful in “the next century.” With this in mind, it might seem unfair to call wood cabinets a “kitchen trend” (as the label might suggest that their appeal is fleeting), but it's hard to argue that 2024 is the year our kitchens return to the natural world.
Al Bruce, Olive & Barpoints out that wooden kitchens have seen a resurgence in recent years, with the use of natural materials becoming increasingly valued and sought-after in interior design. In 2024, this “trend” is more prominent than ever. “Investing in a wooden kitchen offers timeless appeal and incredible versatility, fitting seamlessly into both contemporary and traditional homes,” Bruce points out.
Tom Brady's in good company, and we've recently seen the likes of Zendaya, Jennifer Aniston, and Matthew and Camila McConaughey experimenting with raw wood cabinets in their homes, and each time, the designers are saying the same thing: their styles are designed to last.
For Brady's space, he opted for solid wood doors and marble countertops, but doing the opposite (using wood countertops and a different material for the cabinets) would be just as effective.
“To add balance to an all-wood design, consider incorporating leaded glass front cabinets. Not only will this add variety to the continuity of the solid front doors, but it will also reflect light and add a modern touch to a traditional design,” says Bruce. “White quartz countertops will highlight the natural beauty of the oak and add even more contrast.”
Alternatively, you could use wood in your kitchen island as the ultimate focal point.
“If you prefer adding a touch of wood to your design rather than using the entire cabinetry, consider incorporating ash wood in certain areas of your kitchen, such as the island. Paired with neutral-toned cabinetry, the wood's natural grain will stand out and become the focal point.”
