Our Recommendations
This compact scale is perfect for the home chef who wants fast and consistent results when baking and cooking.
One of the most accurate weighing scales we tested, the Escali Primo Digital Scale provides quick readings in 1-gram or 0.05-ounce increments, can weigh up to 11 pounds (5 kilograms), and stays on for about four minutes before automatically turning off.
The interface is very simple. There are only two buttons: one to switch between units of measurement, and one to tare the scale and power it on/off. The Escali Primo has been our favorite scale since 2017, and we're happy with how it has held up over the years.
Recommended for those on a budget
This scale is about half the price of our top pick and offers the same level of accuracy, although it has a much shorter auto-off time.
The Ozeri Pronto Kitchen & Food Scale looks and feels similar to our top pick, but with a few small differences. Like our top pick, this scale can weigh in 1 gram or 0.05 ounce increments, and in our testing, we found it to be just as accurate. However, it automatically powers off after 2 minutes (about half the power-on time of the Escali Primo). This can be frustrating if you're in the middle of a big project. This scale was also slightly slower, often taking 2 seconds to read very small weights.
wonderful
This scale features a large weighing capacity, a backlit display, a removable platform, and the option to disable the auto-off feature.
The My Weigh KD8000 is much larger than our top pick and about twice the price, but it has some extra features that serious bakers will appreciate: It's just as fast and accurate as the Escali Primo, but it has a larger capacity of up to 17 pounds 9 ounces (8 kilograms), which is handy when you're mixing a large batch of pizza dough for a party, for example.
It also allows you to measure out in baker's percentages, so you can easily increase or decrease recipes if you like to bake by ratio. This is also one of the few scales that allows you to disable the auto-off feature. Unlike Escali and Ozeri scales, the KD8000 comes with an AC adapter in addition to batteries.
wonderful
If you need something that can read to within 0.1 grams, the LB-3000 was the most accurate pocket scale we tested.
For anyone who needs to accurately weigh coffee or other ingredients, we recommend the American Weigh Scales LB-3000 Compact Digital Scale. It was the most accurate 0.1 gram scale we tested; however, its relatively small 6.6 pound (3 kilogram) capacity means it can't be used to weigh large cuts of meat or chunks of dough. The two-minute auto-off feature is long enough to account for the breaks in pouring found in most popular drip coffee recipes. Alternatively, an AC adapter is included, which disables the auto-off when plugged in.
