One trend that will gain momentum in 2024 is sheer painted cabinets that let the wood show through. “We're seeing an increase in the popularity of natural blues and greens as cabinet colors, but these are paired with some transparency to allow the natural wood grain to show through,” Sue Kim, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams Paints, told House Digest exclusively. “These colors, when combined with the texture of wood, offer biophilic benefits and a sense of calm and rest, which we know is a trend people are looking to embrace in home décor.” This not only lets you see the natural lines and knots of the wood, but it also adds an attractive splash of color to your space.
While these textured cabinets may seem rather earthy, the style is set to be huge in 2024. “Our homes are increasingly becoming our sanctuaries, and many are choosing to accentuate their spaces with natural colors and textures,” Kim explains. It's also a clear backlash against the neutral kitchens of the past decade. “What's great about this trend is that it's not just neutral colors, we're seeing more light blues and earthy greens.” To create a similar design in your own kitchen, look for washes rather than opaque finishes.
