Below is the announcement from the Humboldt Bay Fire.
On June 15, 2024 at 8:07pm, the Humboldt Bay Fire Department was dispatched to 511 2nd Street in Eureka for a report of an alarm system going off. Humboldt Bay Fire Department responded to one unit code 2 to investigate.
Upon arriving on scene, crews in Truck 8181 found a four-story residential building above a commercial structure with no visible smoke or flames. A passerby notified crews that the sprinklers had been activated multiple times at the restaurant located at 511 2nd St. As crews entered the building, they found two sprinkler heads with light smoke drifting throughout the building. Crews secured the sprinklers and shut off the water supply to the building. A small fire broke out in the kitchen, but was extinguished. There was a small amount of fire spreading to the wall above the sink; however, the sprinkler system prevented the fire from getting out of control and spreading further.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. No civilians or firefighters were injured, and the total value of the property was approximately $1,050,000, with a value of approximately $1,045,000 saved.
Humboldt Bay Fire wants to remind everyone that a sprinkler system can greatly reduce the damage caused by a fire, and if you have one installed, be sure to maintain it as recommended by your service company.
