A video of a girl revealing that she brought a knife to her date's house has gone viral on TikTok, and she Newsweek She and her mother can't stop laughing about it.
Isabella Gorelik, 18, shared the video on her TikTok account (@bella_gorelik) on June 15, and it has already been viewed over 850,000 times, with users laughing out loud at the mother-daughter duo.
And it's not just TikTok users who find it funny, Gorelick said. Newsweek She and her mother, Danielle, said they have “seen this post so many times and laughed to themselves almost to tears.”
In the video, Gorelik's mother explains that her daughter came to the man's house for a date and “brought a knife” — and when the man said, “I can't believe you're coming to my house, you barely know me,” her mother simply replied, “Don't worry, I brought a knife.”
Naturally, her family joked that when she went off to college, she'd get him a knife: “One for cooking and one to take on dates.”
Gorelik, who is from Florida and also posts on Instagram @isabellagorelik, explained that she had known the man she was dating since they were children, and that they had kept in touch and decided to meet “for the first time in about eight years to catch up.”
“I tell my mother pretty much everything. More than she should know. She knew I was going to see this guy,” she said. Newsweek“My mother was worried about me meeting him at his house and, as usual, would tell me horrific stories every day.
“So I looked her straight in the eye and threw the knife in my handbag as I walked out the door.”
In Florida, it is legal to openly carry almost any knife outside of restricted areas such as schools, courthouses, prisons, etc. However, it is illegal to conceal or carry any knife that is more than four inches in length, according to the Legal Survival Guide.
Self-defense weapons, such as pepper spray, are also legal to purchase, carry, and use without a permit, as long as the container holds two ounces or less and is used only for self-defense.
As soon as Gorelik arrived at his date's house, he told her he had a knife. Newsweek He “just laughed…like every girl I'm with brings a knife, like, super casual,” but her mother “couldn't believe I'd shown him my secret weapon.”
Ms Gorelik worried that “he might have used that against you” and reminded her, “We were in his kitchen and he had his own dishes.”
Gorelik is leaving for college next week and was discussing safety precautions with his mother when he remembered the story and decided to share it on TikTok.
The story quickly spread, with hundreds of women sharing their own experiences, including one who admitted to carrying sharp marshmallow roasting sticks in her purse.
“The way your mom laughed when telling this story was so me,” one person said, while another laughed. “I love that she told him 'don't worry.'”
“Oh yeah, second date? Wow, this is awesome,” laughed another.
And one person joked: “Knife manufacturers are about to release 'First Date' edition steels.”
While violence and threats to women's safety are serious issues, Gorelick said: Newsweek“We look at the comments and laugh and keep saying how amazing it is that so many people can relate to this.”
“The fact that people are commenting and saying they are laughing as much as we are at this video proves that laughter is contagious and spreading happiness is a great thing.”
