Chicago (CBS) — After Dom's Kitchen and Market suddenly closed this spring, along with all of its Foxtrot Market locations in Chicago, it appears another upscale grocer is poised to move into the former Dom's location at Diversey Parkway and Halsted Street.
North Carolina-based grocery chain The Fresh Market plans to take over the space.
The Fresh Market already has stores in Crystal Lake, Geneva, Lake Forest and Wilmette.
Dom's Kitchen & Market and Foxtrot Market The store suddenly closed The move comes six months after the two chains announced their merger on April 23. The deal included Dom's two Chicago locations and all 33 of Foxtrot's locations in the Chicago, Texas and Washington, D.C. areas.
In addition to its location at 2730 N. Halsted St. in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, Dom's also had a location in Old Town at 1233 N. Wells St. A third store was set to open this summer at 30 W. Huron St. in River North and touted as “coming soon” on the grocery chain's website, but the company filed for bankruptcy before that opening could happen.

Delivery was halted, the mobile app was no longer available, and the store's credit cards were no longer accepted.

Prior to Dom's opening, the southwest corner of Diversey and Halsted was home to a strip mall that housed a Dunkin' Donuts, Baskin Robbins, Massage Envy and Performance Bicycle. The mall was completely renovated to accommodate the new Dom's.
