Newton's kitchen underwent one change after another. “The clients were considering new countertops and cabinet colors, but once we started talking, the struggles of everyday life came up,” says Michael Ferzoco, principal at Eleven Interiors. Given his wife's love of cooking, frequent visits from their children and grandchildren, and a lack of light, the couple decided on a complete renovation. “Working with architect Timothy Burke and contractor Paul Donnellan, we blew out the rear to add 300 square feet and create a larger dining area, a walk-in pantry, and a mudroom with space for a driver and an elevator to allow seniors to live in their own home if needed,” Ferzoco says.
1 cabinet The roof of the Jewett Farms home is painted with Sherwin-Williams Chopstix, and the walls and trim are finished in a lighter shade of that shade. “The ceilings are just under eight feet high, so we didn't want to draw attention to the contrast,” Ferzoco explains.
2 Hand-drawn encaustic tile Anne Sacks tiles were the starting point. “I love the saturation of colors and the variety of shapes,” says Ferzoko. “I rotated some of the tiles so that no two tiles overlapped. I would lay them all over the floor and confuse the tile shop!”
3 Articolo Linear pendant A brass mesh inlay illuminates the entire island without disrupting the scene. “Individual pendant lights would have created a cluttered look,” says the designer.
Four Custom Metal Food It resembles aged copper. “I wanted it to have a aged feel and be the same color as the tile, but not too matchy-matchy,” says Ferzoco. Gabriel Scott Candlestick Smoked bronze glass adds interest to your backsplash without obscuring it.
Five of island The color, Farrow & Ball's Calc Green, took its cues from the backsplash, the outdoors, and the colors in the rest of the house. “They wanted a vibrant, fun kitchen,” says Ferzoco.
6 From the bay window with a stool, you can enjoy the view of the garden while sipping coffee. shelf Oak is used for durability and warmth, and cookware is easily accessible. “Displaying her vessels gives the space the feel of a functional kitchen,” Ferzoco points out.
