Indian households often buy large bottles of oil that last for months, but switching to a convenient spray nozzle that releases a controlled amount of oil could be a game changer.
Indianexpress.com spoke to Dr Soumita Biswas, Chief Clinical Nutritionist, Aster RV Hospital, to understand the health benefits of this innovation.
Biswas explained: Oil spray significantly reduces oil usage“It's better for your health because people can quantify the amount of oil they use instead of just pouring it on without measuring,” she said.
Oil spray cans are affordable, and the aerosol nozzle helps you distribute the oil with precision and control.
Do oils have health benefits?
“Various cooking oils contain nutrients such as vitamins A, E, D, K and beta-carotene. Cooking oil mixture “Instead of relying on just one type,” Biswas says.
Biswas cited healthy fats such as fish oil, which is rich in heart-healthy omega-3s, and olive oil, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, as popular cooking oils. “Coconut oil contains MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides), and vegetable oils improve digestion and metabolism,” she said.
Deep-frying causes foods to absorb more oil, she said. “Try sautéing in a little oil instead — an oil spray can help. Also, the high heat of deep-frying can promote free radicals, which can increase your cancer risk,” she pointed out.
Biswas stressed that all oils are safe for use in high-temperature cooking, but consumption should be limited – one gram of oil contains nine calories, and he warned that excessive consumption can lead to health problems such as obesity, heart disease and other illnesses.
